Bathroom DIY Update ~ The Inspiration

Bathroom DIY Inspiration

I’ve been contemplating an update to my guest bathroom for a while now. It is also the bathroom that I use on a daily basis. We have a bathroom attached to our bedroom but it must the be world’s tiniest master bath and Mr. Menace claimed it as his own the day we moved in. That’s ok with me. I need space.

DIY Bath Inspiration

Dreamy bath from OneKindDesign

The guest bath is much larger, although its not especially roomy. It had a linen closet, a double clothes closet, and a large vanity with lots of storage. I say “had” because not too long after we moved in,  my Mama and my sister came to see me and I gave the task of opening up the clothes closet, and decorating it, to my sister. This involved taking off the closet doors, removing the clothes rod and shelf, and decorating.

DIY Bath My Buffet

Not my buffet but exactly like it, except mine is not painted. Yet.

She did an excellent job and I’ve lived with it like that for probably 3 years now and its been great. But one day, I was in the bathroom and I had sat down on the floor to try to clean  around the pocket door opening. When I looked up at the linen closet door, I knew there were just TOO many doors for such a small room and I had the brilliant idea of also removing the whole linen closet. This would give me room to actually put a piece of furniture in the room! I’d still have the huge vanity under the sink and I would move in my Aunt Modie’s buffet which would store lots of towels and toiletries. EUREKA!

Last winter I planned to get three different areas of the house painted. a-hem… I did get the bedroom painted (and it looks marvelous by the way) but we had a short mild winter and I never got around to the other two, one of which was the guest (my) bathroom.

So. I’ve come up with a plan. And here is my Inspiration board:DIY Bathroom Home Decor

I know what you are thinking and you are right! The inspiration board doesn’t look much like a bathroom. Bear with me.

My tile is white. I plan to paint the rest of the wall white also.  That blue door in the inspiration board? That’s the ceiling color. With gold sparkles. 🙂

My Aunt Modie’s buffet, which is like the one in the second photo on this post, will be painted more like the one on the inspiration board. And my chair that is in the bathroom at the moment will get the gilded treatment like my inspiration. I intend to make some jewelry storage and display which will either sit on the buffet or hang above it. I am thinking one will be similar to the inspiration 3 tier cake plate.

Now for a tour around the BEFORE bathroom:

Standing in the doorway, the vanity, counter, and sink are on the left.

There are tons of cabinets.

Just past the counter is the bathtub.

I can’t wait to get rid of the caramel color on the walls.

DIY

There is one window on the end wall.

The commode is directly opposite the bathtub and just to the right of the window.

Next to the commode is the linen closet that will be removed.

Just past the linen closet is the opened up clothes closet.

This is the chair which will get a makeover.

The lights will definitely get updates.

I am excited to get this project underway! (I’m also a tiny bit nervous.)

I’d love to hear any ideas or suggestions you might have.

Niki this is going to be a dream. I really like your vision and the fact that you have such eclectic tastes. You are not afraid to follow them and that is what makes you so not cookie-cutter, which in my book is a big plus. I think the blue on the ceiling is going to look great and with all the bling it will really make an impact. I also see what you meant about all those doors. It’s a big space right now but so awkward. Looking forward to following you on this journey and thanks for providing us with loads of sweet inspiration. Pinning!

Thanks Mary. I am kindof dreading the whole demolition process. I don’t think its as fun as they show it on tv. LOL

Thanks for hosting Jennifer! I am excited to get started…. although if I am honest I am also a bit apprehensive about the messy demo. It is NOT as fun as they make it look on tv. LOL Thanks for stopping by. 🙂

I think I begin everything with Pinterest. hahahaa I use it to find things I like, and even more, to find things I dislike! And then I go from there.
It is overwhelming, but once you find one thing that really inspires you, your imagination will take off! Good luck and keep me posted!

    Hi Nikki,
Thank you for visiting my blog in the recent past. I may take a while to get around to making new acquaintances, but I do try to come back. So glad I did! I love your ‘about me’ – I could say all the same things, except my grands are just dogs so far. 😉
Love your ideas for the bathroom. Yours is set up a lot like mine (and I also use the guest bath daily, as Mr. P. was a bachelor and used to the master bath before I married him and moved in, and that’s just fine with me. He can have that space. My vanity is opposite yours, however, and there’s no door into the tub/loo area. I have always loved that buffet style you own, have sold one (reluctantly) because I’ve always wanted to use one of those for a vanity. Go for it! It’ll be fun following this and other adventures of yours.
