A Love Story Timeline

This year marks out tenth anniversary. Here is how it all came about.

May 30, 2008

Wedding announcement pictures for our boss lady at the Sibyl Temple in Vestavia, Alabama. Or so I was told.

The ruse worked. I had no clue that it was actually a setup for a 2nd proposal. Diamond ring included this time. Two in fact, because he couldn’t decide.

I really can’t remember if I did any yard work that day (I think I did) but that evening we had an engagement celebratory dinner at The Bright Star in Bessemer, Alabama. And FREE DESSERT compliments of the owner.

I asked if I could borrow his truck because I wanted to go to Home Depot and get several bags of compost and manure along with some tiling supplies for a bathroom makeover. He said the trucks tires were unreliable and because of where HD is located, he would just drive me. Unbeknownst to me, a plan had been brewing in his mind ever since the month before, but he had not figured out all the details. So when he went home to get his truck he decided that this was the day.

After we loaded up a cart with tiling supplies, we headed out to the garden center. Along the way, we walked past this gazebo. He asked me if I liked it which kind of annoyed me, because I was in a hurry to get my stuff, get home, and get to work.

Engagement, Home Depot, Garden Center,
THEN, he pulled me over and told me to sit down under the gazebo which really…… WHY was he wasting my time???? He then sat down, and I began to worry. I asked him if he was ok because he never stops to rest like that, and it had been less than a month since his heart attack. As I sat down beside him, he assured me he was fine and he began to speak about me doing my projects and he doing his projects and that maybe we should start doing projects together. I just looked at him a little dumbfounded and then he asked me to marry him.

Now, he is quite the prankster, so I didn’t believe him. I thought it was all a set up for a joke. I looked around for a manager or some accomplice that might be taking pictures and laughing. There was nothing, so I asked him if he was kidding. He said no, I’ll even get on one knee, and he pulled a ring out of his pocket. It happened to be toy wedding decor ring that you buy from Walmart, you know the ones…. 100 in a bag for a couple of dollars……

Well, I was still just looking at him with a stupid blank look trying to figure out what the joke was, when he said, yes or no, my knees are killing me! That made me smile and I said yes, and hugged him. I wore that ring proudly.

We spent Valentine’s Day in the hospital after Mr. Menace’s heart attack a day or two earlier in the office. Unbeknownst to me, he decided at this point that it was time to propose, before it was too late.

January 14, 2008

Our first trip to Vegas! We had a great time, but he spent a lot of time in bed and I did a lot of walking the strip and sight seeing on my own. Little did we know.

Our first date was at Cecil’s Public House in Alexander City, AL. He was training our office employees and asked me to dinner. I hesitated, but decided that I wanted to see what made this guy tick. He seemed so happy and confident and full of life. Just what I needed at the time.

How about you? Have you got a good love story to share? Tell me in the comments; I’d love to hear it!

And don’t forget to visit Jamie at No Delusions of Grandeur.

Dang computer, I wasn’t finished with my comment!!

You guys have been married just two months longer than we. PC and I dated for five years and were both so scared to remarry after getting burned badly in our previous marriages. I hit the jackpot this time, though, and got a really good guy. Sounds like you did, too.

Yes I saw that you were on your 10th anniversary this year also! We were the same way about committing again. We dated for 8 years. Thanks for coming up with this idea. It’s been fun! 🙂

Happy 10th anniversary this year! I like the idea of a timeline…these posts are giving me so many future ideas! 😉 Also, I love the Home Depot proposal! I think I would’ve been a little sad when they took the gazebo display down!

I was. He tried to buy it, but the manager wouldn’t discount it, so he didn’t. LOL I forgot to mention WHY he chose Home Depot. When I was single and had my own home, I went every weekend almost and bought flowers or plants of some kind to put in my yard. When he decided to propose after his heart attack, he tried to think of someplace special to take me for the event. But never could come up with anything that wasn’t more “him” than me. And so after putting it off and putting it off, that morning in question, he decided “why not Home Depot?!” And the rest is history. Thanks Amber!

Wonderful story of the love between you and “Mr. Menace”! Not just one proposal but two! His heart attack must have been terrifying.for you. I hope you both stay healthy and have many, many, many more years together.Thank you for sharing your story with us on #PartyinYourPJs.

Well, heart attacks are about to get to become old hat around here. That was his first since I’ve known him (but not his first) and he’s had two more since then. Or is it three. hmmmmm He has promised me 50 or so more years, but I am appreciating each and every one I get. Thanks Teresa. 🙂
