When we bought our house a little over six years ago, there were a ton of cabinets in the kitchen.

So many in fact, that with the wood floor, the tan back splash, and the tan counter top, the whole room was WAY too brown.

I needed to add color.

You can read about how I started adding color HERE.

I had seen the below picture on Pinterest and been saving it for years, not knowing when or how I might use it, but knowing that I wanted to.

Now with my new furniture in the kitchen I had the perfect opportunity to use my inspiration picture.

I wish I had enough bowls to put nothing but bowls on the shelf, but I don’t. So I put my glasses on the top shelf, which works out beautifully when the morning sun streams in that window and makes them sparkle.

Grouping by color is the secret. Using each shelf for one color makes a statement that is really appealing and eye catching.

I smile every time I look at my color themed styled shelves.

Color makes me happy.

How do you style your open shelves?

I love how you have changed your kitchen. I feel like you do about too much brown and beige! Your open shelves are just so fun to look at. I hadn’t thought about how you grouped by color until you mentioned it. But you are right – it does make a BIG impact that way. Thank you for the tip!

Lisa, I never would have thought of it without the inspiration picture. In fact. I first put my stuff on the shelves and thought “something isn’t right.” I sent the picture to mama and told her and she said “you need to group the bowls by color!” EUREKA! Why didn’t I see that? LOL

This is such a fun and creative way to add a pop of color and style to the kitchen!! If I had the colorful bowls, I would be on the hunt for more every time I traveled. πŸ˜‰
